The BRC has expanded its youth programs this summer.

Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo says we need people working and paying taxes, not jailed in a cell, which costs tens of thousands of dollars per incarcerated person.  His remarks prefaced the public update of the Blue Ribbon Commission’s mission: to build a community where the youth are safe, healthy, educated, and successful.

Gun Violence Prevention: A Community Affair

UNCW professors say gun violence is a matter of concern spanning all of Wilmington's neighborhoods and tax brackets.

Because Wilmington’s recent spate of gun violence has residents from every walk of life concerned, City Councilman and UNCW political science professor Earl Sheridan corralled some university colleagues for a community panel event.  WHQR’s Katie O’Reilly reports that Wednesday night’s discussion often landed on another local hot button: public education.
