Superstar Academy provides theatrical education for students and adults through outreach in schools, afterschool classes, and through the special program Theatre for All!, Wilmington's only theatre program for people of all ages with developmental disabilities. These classes are given at no- or low-cost to participants...but the work does cost money. That's why Superstar Academy is having a fundraiser. Zach Hanner, the Artistic Director, is throwing a Luau at Walker World this Saturday, March 4th for just this purpose.

Allon Nir was diagnosed with high-functioning autism when he was 26 years old; up until that point, doctors weren't sure what to make of him. Allon reflects on his condition and why he loves comic performing, even though performing might seem like the last thing he would want to do. Comedy can be especially brutal to the self-esteem, but comedy is Allon's favorite genre.

Theatre for All! was conceived and put in action about a year and a half ago through the Superstar Academy at Theatre Now.  The project was created to provide performance opportunities for youth and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities, including Down Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and Williams Syndrome.

Alisa Harris, the Owner/Producer of Theatre Now and Zach Hanner, the Artistic Director, joined us in the studio last week.  Wilmington's only dinner theatre venue has a lot going on this holiday season-for adults and kids.

Upcoming highlights include:

A Trailer Park Christmas Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays through December 20 (7:00/3:00 Sundays)

Kim Henry moved to Wilmington about 4 years ago and within 2 weeks began teaching drama workshops for children.  She had started a company several years earlier in Spain, called Luv2Act, and she wanted to continue her work here.  She knew she was doing the work she loved most.
