Don Gonyea is a national political correspondent for NPR based in Washington, D.C.  and 2016 marks his 30th year with the network.  He’s covered some pivotal moments in political history -- including the 2000 presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore. 

State of NC

Governor Bev Perdue has ordered that all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset today.   The order is in recognition of Patriot Day, which President Obama is expected to declare as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.   WHQR’s Rachel Lewis Hilburn reports on how the Governor is asking the public’s help in honoring military families and veterans.
