New Hanover County Commissioners have rejected a proposed limit on travel expenses for Board Members. 

At Monday's regular meeting, Commissioner Woody White suggested travel decisions be shaped by the answers to three questions.

"Is the travel, whether it’s by a commissioner or particularly by employees or department heads and so forth, is it necessary for licensing and certification?  Secondly, is the topic of the conference relevant to an issue we’re addressing?"

The Department of Veterans Affairs building in Wilmington – hailed as a boon for local veterans who don’t have to drive to Fayetteville for health care – has been bogged down by concerns over drinking water contamination for months.   In response to those concerns, New Hanover County and the Board of Health  delivered on Monday what officials are calling a "protocol" to building owner Summit Smith Healthcare, who leases the facility to the Federal Government.

Commissioners from Brunswick, Pender, and New Hanover Counties just returned from a four-day trip to Washington, D.C.

New Hanover County Commissioners are likely to decide next week whether to green-light the issuance of a $40 million bond to pay for construction and repair projects at Cape Fear Community College. 

Four candidates competing for two seats on the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners met Monday night in WHQR's MC Erny Gallery to distinguish themselves from their opponents. 

The elections for New Hanover County Commissioner don’t happen until next year, and the filing period for candidates doesn’t open until February, but the race is already getting underway. 

In a Facebook posting over the Labor Day weekend, Democratic Candidate Rob Zapple announced his candidacy and updated his campaign website. 

Rob Zapple is one of four Democratic candidates running for a seat on the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners.
