When our webmaster John Mortara said it was my turn to post a Top Five blog entry, I thought it would be a pretty simple matter – just come up with my favorite flavors of ice cream, or Cincinnati Reds infielders, or whatever. But no, I had to dig down deep for this one.

WHQR has a terrific art show up in the MC Erny Gallery called OUTSIDE and I started thinking about all the fantastic ways to spend time outside in Wilmington. Mostly, it is so easy to have outside family fun. My husband Frank and I have six-year-old twin daughters, Maggie and Kate, who love playing outdoors so we've found lots of easy ways to get out and have a great time for very little money. Here are my top five things to do OUTSIDE with kids.

The Blues.  Its origins are murky (okay, muddy), and it’s legacy is passed from generation to generation.  The people who play the Blues happily adopt the genre, give it a home, dress it up a little, and influence it in their own way.  While you’ve (likely) never heard of them, here are some ear-opening performers who have made the Blues their own…
