The state House has voted to make it much more difficult for cities to expand by annexing land if property owners object.  And, as WHQR’s Rachel Lewis Hilburn reports, another House-approved bill would cancel contentious annexations by nine towns and cities.

Now that Wilmington and a handful of other cities have filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of North Carolina’s new petition process for annexation, WHQR’s Michelle Bliss reports that the issue will begin to unfold in a Wake County courtroom on Monday.


Nearly 75 percent of property owners in Monkey Junction have spoken loud and clear: they don’t want to be annexed.
