Play Ball! The Miracle League

Mar 20, 2016

Executive Director of Wilmington's  Miracle League, Jennifer Bell, joined us in the studio to talk about the opening of the baseball season on Miracle Field. The games began on March 12th.  The Miracle League offers opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities to play America's favorite ballgame.  Listen to Jennifer Bell above to learn more.

It was 1990 when President George Herbert Walker Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act into law.  Twenty-three years later, the Brax Stadium PPD Miracle Field opens in Wilmington.

The Miracle League of Wilmington will soon boast an open and handicapped-accessible field and playground.  This weekend, members unveiled the new recreational facility – at 5510 Olsen Park Lane in Wilmington.  That’s according to WWAY TV3.

This field, unlike other ball fields, is not made out of dirt. Instead, builders used materials that allow anyone with special needs, including wounded warriors and seniors, to access the park.

Angela Blanton says she is happy her two special needs daughters now have a comfortable place to play.

A miracle could grace New Hanover County as early as May.

That’s when nonprofit organizers expect a Miracle League baseball field and accessible playground to open at Olsen Park on land provided by the City of Wilmington.
