Midday Interview: Gareth Evans on A Christmas Stroll Through the Past

Gareth Evans is the Executive Director of the Bellamy Mansion Museum. The Bellamy is partenering with the Burgwin-Wright House and St. James Episcopal Church to host A Christmas Stroll Through the Past. Luminaries will light the way between the three historic sites. There will be holiday decorations, many local choirs singing Christmas music, costumed guides, a petting zoo, refreshments and more. The event is Saturday, December 13 from 4-7 PM. You can drop in any time. If you go to the Bellamy at 4 PM there will be cookie and tree decorating activities for the children.

Patty Proutey's 19-year-old son Joshua was killed in 2012 as he left the Community Arts Center downtown late last night. She has created a non-profit to honor his memory which will provide funding for life-affirming activities for at-risk youth in the hope that "good ultimately can come form Joshua's death." The launch of the non-profit, called Journey4Josh, is this Friday from 6-9 PM at Cape Fear Community College's beautiful new Union Station. Patty will speak, as will District Attorney Ben David.

Midday Interview: Ronnie Wise and David Tousignant on Coastal Carolina Christmas

Ronnie Wise and David Tousignant tell us about Coastal Carolina Christmas, two nights at St. Paul's Episcopal Church that feature two different concerts. On Friday, December 12 The Wilmington Boys Choir makes its official debut along with the choirs of St. Paul's and soloists (Nancy King, Whitney Lanier, Sara Westermark, Bob Workmon and John Callison) performing traditional music of the season. Also featured will be selections from Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols and Saint-Seans' Christmas Oratorio. A champagne and chocolate reception will follow the performances.

WHQR's Classical Host Jemila Ericson Resigns

WHQR Public Radio announces that Jemila Ericson has resigned from her position as Classical Host and Midday Interview Host. Her last official day on air will be December 26, 2014. Jemila notified station management, staff and board of her decision on November 25, 2014. She has been a wonderful part of WHQR for over 20 years and will be deeply missed by colleagues and listeners alike.

Midday Interview: Bill Hamlet and Jessica Schreiber on "Holiday Marketplace"

Bill Hamlet is president of the Landfall Foundation, which raises funds to support many non-profits in our area. The foundation just gave out $310,000 in grants last week. The annual Holiday Marketplace is one of the foundation's fundraisers. Co-chair Jessica Schreiber describes the abundance of items on sale. Tickets are $20, available through the website LandfallFoundation.org Your ticket includes hors d'oeuvres, shopping and a chance to help your community. There will be a cash bar.

Midday Interview: George Bobeck on Brunswick Concert Band's Autumn Concert

The Brunswick Concert Band, made up of a 50 volunteer musicians from teenagers to retirees in their 80s, will give two Autumn Concerts this weekend - on Friday at 7:30 in Hatch Auditorium, Caswell Beach; and on Sunday at 3:00 in Odell Williamson Auditorium, Brunswick Community College. Selections wil include some famous marches, an arrangement of Christmas carols, and Richard Addinsell's Warsaw Concerto. George Bobeck will be conducting, and his wife, Jane Boberg will be the piano soloist.

Midday Interview: Jim Glasenapp and Cindy Houck on "Musical Morsels: Fall Concert"

Cape Fear Chorale presents Musical Morsels: Fall Concert. Board members Jim Glasenapp and Cindy Houck were my guests and told us about the diverse pieces that will be sung, including some patriotic favorites. A portion of the donations received will go to the local non-profit Step Up for Soldiers. The concerts are both at Winter Park Baptist Church; on Saturday at 7:30 PM and on Sunday at 4 PM. Midday Interview: Daniel Metz on "Hide and Seek"

Daniel Metz is the producer, co-writer and one of the five actors in a new feature film called Hide and Seek. The film will be shown TONIGHT at 7 pm at Thalian Hall for Cucalorus. Born in Boston, Daniel currently lives in London with his wife Joanna Coates, who is director and also co-writer of the film. Hide and Seek follows four young people who flee the cynicism and financial pressures of the big city and establish their own commune in the country.

Midday Interview: Rabbi Shuviel Ma'aravi and Josh Polak on Stone Soup Concerts

Susan Savia hosts a series called the Stone Soup Concerts. Her latest edition of Stone Soup features Rabbi Shuviel Ma'aravi and Josh Polak performing folk music from many traditions including Ladina, Chassidic, Sephardic, Celtic, American and contemporary folk. You can hear a sample of the Ladino song 'Alta, Alta Es La Luna' (High, High is the Moon) at the end of the interview.  They will be at B'nai Israel Synagogue TONIGHT at 7 pm (doors at 6:30 pm), 2601 Chestnut Street. Tickets are available at the door for $15.
