Possible Park Could Hamper Thalian's Fundraising

Wilmington, NC – Thalian Hall's Executive Director Tony Rivenbark says a city park proposed for the Thalian's current parking lot could hamper fundraising efforts for an addition to the historic performance hall.


Rivenbark says he's already hearing concerns from patrons he's hoping will fund the $8-million project.

Cape Fear Community College Gets An A+

Wilmington, NC – Cape Fear Community College has received a perfect accreditation report from Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.


Cape Fear Community College President Eric McKeithan says the flawless report is a rare feat for any institution and a first for CFCC.


He says the administration has been working long and hard to earn the perfect score.

Convention Center Contract Before Wilmington Council

Wilmington, NC – It's late on the agenda, but first in many minds - a revised contract with developer Armada Hoffler, committing 2.2 million dollars of city money to design and build the Convention Center, including an initial payment of 600,000 dollars to complete the design phase.

Tonight's vote takes place before the swearing in of one of the strongest voices of opposition to the convention center.

Wilmington Police Looking for Red Money

Wilmington, NC – As money from the Wilmington First Citizens Bank robbery shows up in local circulation, police want citizens to keep an eye on the money they exchange.

Investigator Andy Korwatch of the Wilmington Police Department says during the course of the robbery two dye packs went off, leaving a portion of the money distinguishable by a red staining.

Operation Stop Arm

Wilmington, NC – In an attempt to enhance the safety of children on school buses, the state is holding its annual program Operation Stop Arm.


The program is designed to crack down on motorists, who choose to pass a stopped school bus while dropping off and picking up children.


Lt. Everett Clendenin of the North Carolina Highway Patrol says, each school day over 1,000 of these violations take place throughout the state.

New Sculptures Settle in Downtown

Wilmington, NC – Martin Tadlock still finds the Wilmington waterfront in everything he does.

The sculptor says memories of a childhood spent fishing on Wilmington's docks and boating on the Cape Fear infuse the massive sculptures he now welds in his Virginia studio.

So it's appropriate that Tadlock's first step onto his hometown art scene has the river as its backdrop.
