My guests today were Joy Dupree Gregory, founder and artistic director of True 2 U Productions, and Tracy Byrd, the director and choreographer of the company’s latest show --  Smokey Joe’s Café: The Songs of Lieber and Stoller.

The show runs Friday and Saturday at 8 and Sunday at 3 – this weekend and next – at the Scottish Rite Theater, 1415 S. 17th Street.  Tickets / info: 910-515-3327 

Guest host Gina Gambony spoke with actors Randy Davis and Vanessa Welch who play a married couple in Dearly Departed for Big Dawg Productions.  (They’re married in real life too!)T

Opera House Theatre Company presents The Wizard of Oz.  This stage version was created by the Royal Shakespeare Company and follows the classic 1939 film almost exactly, but making all those cinematic special effects work on stage is a challenge!  Director Suellen Yates and actor Tony Rivenbark (who plays Professor Marvel and The Wizard) tell us about this huge undertaking.

Thalian Association Community Theatre presents Chrisopher Durang’s award-winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike at the Red Barn Studio Theatre.  Director Nicole Farmer and actor Jacob Keohane tell us about this hilarious takeoff on Chekhov. 

The show runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 [note the early curtain time!] and Sundays at 3, starting this week and ending June 21.  For tickets and more information:

Cape Fear Theatre Arts at City Stage presents the punk rock musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.  Director Shane Fernando and lead actor Paul Teal explain how a fascinating 19th century story collides with “emo”…and it works!

Cherri McKay and Robb Mann told us all about Cape Fear Shakespeare on the Green, opening the Shakespeare Youth Company’s adaptation of As You Like It (directed by Cherri) Friday, May 23rd at Greenfield Lake Amphitheatre.  The adult troupe opens Comedy of Errors (directed by Robb) on June 6. 

Thalian Association presents the Leonard Bernstein musical Wonderful Town. Guest host Gina Gambony spoke with two integral members of the show. The lively interview even feature some lovely singing, be sure to listen to this unique Midday Interview!

Ed Wagenseller is directing the absurdist play Ubu Rex for UNCW Department of Theatre.  It opens tonight and runs for two weekends: Thursday-Saturday at 8 and Sunday at 2 on the Mainstage of the Cultural Arts Building.  Tickets available through the Kenan Box Office: 962-3500.
