Since the 24-hour Classical HQR signed on in September 2014, we have received many expressions of gratitude from listeners who can receive the signal. This includes much of New Hanover County and the north Brunswick County area around Leland.
The recent addition of Classical HQR 96.7fm and the simultaneous revamp of HQR News 91.3fm have been, as expected, mammoth tasks. Because we are automated during parts of the day and on weekends, we have had to re-write literally thousands of lines of computer code. Some of it has gone more smoothly than we could have hoped.
Since signing on Classical HQR at 96.7 last week, we have received many messages of thanks from classical listeners in New Hanover and areas in neighboring counties who are overjoyed to have classical music on FM 24 hours a day. But listeners elsewhere have reported reception problems.
IT'S OFFICIAL! As of 5:30 pm on Tuesday, September 16 WHQR gave birth to HQRNews 91.3 FM and ClassicalHQR 96.7. Joined by several of our listeners, volunteers, staff and some special guests including Mayor Bill Saffo and County Commissioner Woody White, we heralded in this exciting event with the flip of a giant switch and plenty of champagne. Be sure to check out the slideshow above to see pictures from this truly historic night!
WHQR Public Radio is honored to announce the debut of its new all-classical FM signal, Classical HQR at 96.7fm, broadcasting as of 5:30 pm, Tuesday September 16th. This 24/7, non-commercial classical station will join the newly expanded 24/7, non-commercial news and information station, WHQR News at 91.3fm. The Friends of Public Radio Board threw a cookout for WHQR's volunteers, staff and their families on Sunday, September 14 at Hugh McRae Park. Our terrific board members baked cookies, made salads and grilled delicious hot dogs and burgers for some very thankful staffers and volunteers. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful board. THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!
Be sure to check out the slideshow of this great event (special thanks to Paul Reinmann for all the gorgeous images)!
