In this election year, a super star political correspondent as the guest for the WHQR Fundraising Luncheon was a must – and we found the best, Don Gonyea. Heard currently on NPR and WHQR, Gonyea has enormous experience covering politics and presidents.

Wilmington is looking forward to Michelle Dockery sightings.

The WHQR News Department won six outstanding journalism awards last weekend at the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas/Associated Press Convention and Awards Luncheon at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

HQR News was named by the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas for Best Entertainment Story for a feature on John Lithgow reported by News Director Rachel Lewis Hilburn. The news team was also honored in three other categories: Education, General News, and Political Coverage.

My Top 5: Deathly Tales about Dead Composers

There's nothing better than a good story.  The history of classical music is chock full of them.  In the spirit of Halloween, I'm delighted to share with you 5 of my favorite tales related to the death (or after-life) of composers.  These range from the stubborn to the eerie to the just plain bizarre, arranged in ascending order. 

5. Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687).  We've heard the warning about not shooting ourselves in the foot.  Perhaps we should also take care not to stab ourselves in the foot.
