Hurricane Irma

Tropical Storm Irma may have changed course, but high winds are still blowing through the Cape Fear region. That’s causing flight and ferry cancellations through the evening.

The outer bands of Tropical Storm Irma have begun to affect travel in and around the Wilmington-Lower Cape Fear region.

Wilmington International Airport says flights to and from Atlanta, Charlotte, and cities further up the Atlantic coast have been canceled, and urges travelers to call ahead to find out if their flight has been affected.

Also, The North Carolina Department of Transportation has suspended runs of the Southport-Fort Fisher ferry until further notice.
