WHQR Day 2017!

By proclamation of the Mayor of Wilmington and the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners, September 13th will officially be known as WHQR DAY. WHQR listeners all over our area will be asked to wear WHQR buttons, stickers and t-shirts and share photos via social media (#WHQRday). The proclamations will be broadcast on the air and listeners and supporters will end the day at a large celebration at Waterline Brewing Company.

The big WHQR Day Party will be at Waterline Brewing Company, 721 Surry Street, under the bridge, downtown Wilmington from 6 – 8pm on September 13. The event will feature music, food trucks, cake, free t-shirts for the first 50 guests and more. It will also be an opportunity to meet the new Station Manager, Michelle Rhinesmith.

WHQR Public Radio, broadcasting from Wilmington, serves southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina with HQR News at 91.3fm and Classical HQR at 92.7fm. WHQR offers news, music, entertainment and interaction to expand knowledge, encourage artistic appreciation, engage our community and promote civil discourse.

WHQR is participating in the national PARK(ing) Day by taking over a parking space and creating a lush SoundGarden. The garden will be located in a parking space directly in front of HQR’s Studios at 254 N. Front Street and will be open from 11am – 6pm on Friday, September 18, 2015.

Opera House Theatre Company present the mesmerizing musical by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim called "Into The Woods." In the first act we meet many familiar fairy tale characters and see how their stories interweave. By intermission many have found their "happily ever after." In the second act the characters find out what happens AFTER they got what they wanted ...or what they thought they wanted.  Today's guests were director/choreographer Jason Aycock and actress/singer/dancer Kendra Goehring-Garrett (Cinderella in the show).

Friday night at the MC Erny Gallery at WHQR staff, members, volunteers and local art lovers/supporters gathered to see the absolutely magnificent debut of the art show "Hues of Juxtapostion," with work by talented local artists Mio Reynolds, Eunkyung Kim Cazier and Randy McNamara. Never before have such different styles come together to create such a vibrant, seamless arrangement. The night was filled with wine, delicious refreshments and best of all, great conversations with our featured artists.  View the slideshow to see pictures from this great night!
