Ten teenage musicians compete this weekend in Wilmington and three world-renowned musicians judge them. UNCW hosts the Ronald Sachs International Music Competition this Friday and Saturday. Master Classes for flute, piano, and violin are scheduled for Friday morning--and while these classes are full for participants, students are invited to observe. The public is also invited to the competition rounds and to the performance Friday evening by the judges: Nicole Esposito (flute), Levon Ambartsumian (violin), and Evgeny Rivkin (piano). Listen to Ronald Sachs partner Adrian Varnum and competition Artistic Director Danijela Zezelj-Gualdi talk about the event above.

The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra (WSO) continues its Serenades season with guest artist Daniella Zezelj-Gualdi, Croatian violinist and professor of music at UNCW. Danijela and WSO perform Tchaikovsky's Serenade in C and Albinoni's Sinfonia in G minor, but the highlight of the concert is Astor Piazzolla's Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. Piazzolla revolutionized tango music by incorporating jazz and classical elements into traditional tango, creating tango nuevo. Danijela spoke with us about Piazzolla and the violin she'll be playing on loan from Ronald Sachs Violin; listen above.

A group of superb musicians are joining forces on Thursday, March 24 to support UNCW's Community Music Academy (CMA).  The performance is a benefit concert  featuring a reception, lush music, and a silent auction.  Performers include guitarists Rob Nathanson and Justin Hoke, violinist Danijela Zezelz-Gualdi, pianists Paolo Gualdi and Elizabeth Loparits, cellist Jake Wenger, and UNCW's new bassist, Natalie Boeyink.
