Chamber Music Wilmington

Schumann Quartet

Chamber Music Wilmington (CMW) was in luck when the German Schumann Quartet took a 3-year residency at Lincoln Center in New York. That made it feasible for CMW Artistic Director, Barbara McKenzie, to to secure this group for a performance in Wilmington: Sunday, November 5 at Beckwith Recital Hall, 7:30pm.

Last season, Chamber Music Wilmington (CMW) invited Israeli-American cellist Amit Peled to town. The big story then was that Peled was playing Pablo Casals' cello.

Chamber Music Wilmington presents the Jasper String Quartet this Sunday, April 23 at 3:00pm at Beckwith Recital Hall. This award-winning quartet has been a fan of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis since they heard his music 7 years ago-specifically, a piece called "Musica Celestis," which is on the agenda for this afternoon performance. Listen to composer Kernis and Jasper Quartet violist Sam Quintal talk about this popular piece above. Segments of the 11-minute piece heard in the interview are from a recording by the Jasper Quartet.

The award-winning Philadelphia-based Jasper String Quartet is coming to Wilmington, performing for Chamber Music Wilmington on Sunday, April 23 at Beckwith Recital Hall at 3:00pm. In the morning prior to the performance, the musicians will hold a free String Masterclass at WHQR, 11:00am-12:30pm.

Horszowski Trio
Lisa-Marie Mazzucco/BesenArts

This Sunday is the 3rd concert in Chamber Music Wilmington's (CMW) Simply Classical series. Pat Marriott is a longtime supporter of CMW (and a voice you'll hear on Classical HQR). Listen above to hear Pat talk about the Horszowski Trio and the music the group brings to Wilmington. Particularly interesting is Pat's insight into composer Rebecca Clarke and why he can't wait to hear her trio performed.

World-renowned Israeli-American cellist Amit Peled performs in Wilmington on Sunday...and he'll be playing Pablo Casals' cello.  The cello, a 1733 Goffriller, was loaned to Peled by Casals' widow, Marta, about 4 years ago. After seeing (and hearing) Peled play, Marta decided that he was the right musician to bring the cello to life again.  Peled now speaks through this instrument with his own voice. Listen to Amit Peled and Barbara McKenzie from Chamber Music Wilmington talk about the cello above.

Chamber Music Wilmington presents its 2nd performance of the season this weekend: the award-winning Chicago-based Kontras Quartet. The show is this Sunday at Beckwith Recital Hall at 7:30pm. We spoke by telephone with Jean Hatmaker, the cellist of the group. Hatmaker talks about the orchestral vs.

Zorá String Quartet has gathered a great list of achievements in its mere 3 years of existence: the Sander Buchman Award; Friends of Music Concerts Prize; Hayden's Ferry Chamber Music Series Prize; Paramount Theatre Prize; Vancouver Recital Prize; Grand Prize & Gold Medal Winner of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition-and more. Zorá Quartet kicks off Chamber Music Wilmington's (CMW) season this Sunday, 9/25 with a 3:00 performance at Beckwith Recital Hall.
