Midday Interview with Jemila Ericson

During our Classical block on Tuesdays through Fridays at 12:06, Jemila Ericson and other staff members host a celebration of the arts and culture of the Lower Cape Fear. They interview artists, actors, dancers, writers and creators of community events--all the inspiring movers and shakers who enrich our lives.

Holiday Train Expo

My guests today were Don Huovenin (left) and Farrell Teague (right). Don and Farrell are members of the Cape Fear Model Railroad Society which has created a Holiday Train Expo in the former Gap Store next to Sears at Independence Mall.  It features many exhibits of model trains (O Gauge, HO and G) some of which are interactive.  You can start and stop the train!  You can load coal!  It’s a great family event, and it runs Fridays from 6 to 9 and Saturdays from 2 to 5 through December 22.

"A Christmas Carol" at TheatreNOW

Today I spoke with Hank Toler from TheatreNOW.  The company is putting on a 5-person adaptation of A Christmas Carol.  It previews this Friday and Saturday with a 3-course meal; tickets $38.  The show continues every Friday and Saturday through December 22 with a 4-course Victorian Christmas meal; tickets $48.  The doors open at 5:30; the show begins at 6:30.

Plenty of holiday fun with with Elizabeth Hester and Kim Kelley

Free Cape Fear Chorale Concert

"Losing My Sister: A Memoir"

I talked with Judy Goldman about her book Losing My Sister: A Memoir.  Judy will be at B’nai Israel Synagogue tonight at 7:00 to give a free reading.  She paint a vivid picture of growing up in South Carolina in a close-knit family, and how she and her older sister Brenda experienced three rifts in their relationship.  The book is beautifully written; I highly recommend it.

Compagnie de Danse

Our guests today were Jean-Rene Delsoin, Artistic Director of Compagnie de Danse Jean-Rene Delsoin… with company and tour manager Mario LaMothe of the U.S. State Department’s Center Stage initiative.  The company is hosting a Community Drum Circle and Dance Demonstration open to the public tomorrow from noon to one at UNCW’s outdoor amphitheater.  The company’s final performance is Friday night at 8 at Kenan Auditorium at UNCW.  A reception follows.  Tickets: Kenan Box Office, 962-3500.  Info and tix also at uncw.edu.arts

Poplar Grove Plantation's Halloween Festival

Jeanne Walker of Poplar Grove Plantation told us about their biggest event of the year, the Halloween Festival!  It’s spread over two weekends this year, October 12-14 and October 19-21.  We also chatted about an event later this month called Happy Tails Dog Expo on October 28.
