Midday Interview with Jemila Ericson

During our Classical block on Tuesdays through Fridays at 12:06, Jemila Ericson and other staff members host a celebration of the arts and culture of the Lower Cape Fear. They interview artists, actors, dancers, writers and creators of community events--all the inspiring movers and shakers who enrich our lives.

Midday Interview: Forward Motion Dance Company Annual Performance

Forward Motion Dance Company presents its Annual Performance.  

Forward Motion founder/choreographer/dancer Tracey Varga and cellist/composer Jude Eden told us about the program featuring a new piece to the music of the late William “Paco” Strickland and his Fabulous Flying Flamenco Brothers, and a new work performed to live music composed and played by Jude Eden.  

Performances are at 8pm, tonight, Friday and Saturday at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Art Center.  Tickets available at 910-341-7860.

Midday Interview: The Hippie Ball 2013

Jimmy Pierce, Director of the non-profit Kids Making It, told us all about The Hippie Ball!  This is “the best party of the summer” by all accounts, and features music by Steady Eddie, catering by Bon Appetit, live and silent auctions.  It’s Saturday night from 6:30 until…at the Brooklyn Arts Center.  Tickets are $45, available through Etix.

Midday Interview: Sophie Amelkin & Heather Bobeck duet recital

Soprano and actress Sophie Amelkin is giving a duet recital with her friend and colleague Heather Bobeck on Saturday at 7pm at Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, Wrightsville Beach.  Pianist Joseph Hughes is also on the program.  Sophie and Heather are hoping to raise funds for their upcoming graduate studies.

Midday Interview: "The Food-Faith-Climate Change Connection"

Susannah Tuttle, director of North Carolina Interfaith Power and Light, will present a program tonight in the Parish Hall of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. It’s called Sacred Foodscapes & Faith: The Food-Faith-Climate Change Connection. Ed Ablard of the church vestry outreach gave us details about the event, which includes networking at 5:00, a light supper at 5:30, and the program at 6:00.  Free, but donations accepted.  St. Paul’s is at 16 North 16th Street in Wilmington.

Midday Interview: "Venus in Fur"

Imaginary Theatre Company presents Venus in Fur by David Ives.  Director Lee Lowrimore and actress Anna Stromberg tell us about this daring, erotic, mysterious comic drama.  It stars Anna Stromberg and Mike O’Neill.

Midday Interview: "Brooklyn: The Musical"

City Stage presents Brooklyn: The Musical.  My guests were director Anthony David Lawson, and actor/singers Olivia James and LaRaisha Burnette.  The show opens tonight at 8, and runs at 8 every night through Sunday.  It then runs for two more weekends, Friday through Sunday May 31-June 2 and June 7-9), all shows at 8.  City Stage is at 21 North Front Street.  Tickets are available online.
