Fridays, 7:35 am, 8:51 am, and 5:45 pm

Friday Feedback is our listeners' chance to tell us what you think about any aspect of the operations or programming of WHQR. Each week station manager Cleve Callison selects a range of comments representing viewpoints received. Most of them are presented without comment, but if there is a specific question asked we'll try to answer it.

The most meaningful comments, for us and for other listeners, are ones where you give us permission us to use your full name. But if you prefer we'll use first names only. If you miss Friday Feedback on the air, you can find it on the website each Friday morning.

You can submit your feedback in any of several ways:

  • When you make a pledge at whqr.org
  • Comments section on our member survey (the deadline for 2011 is December 31).
  • Letters to WHQR at 254 North Front Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
  • Via email to feedback@whqr.org
  • Through our Feedback line, 910-292-WHQR (9477)

We value your input on Friday Feedback. Let us hear from you!

A number of listeners wrote on our website about the proposed baseball stadium in Wilmington. I won’t go over them here, since the purpose of Friday Feedback is on WHQR’s operation, and not the issues we cover. But a couple of people commented on our reporting.

During our on-air fund drives we receive many comments along with pledges from listeners. Here’s a sample from our Summer drive, which ended Wednesday night.

Donna and Brian Shiro of Wilmington said:

I enjoy Morning Edition and Science Friday! Great station with great staff.

Mary Stephenson of Myrtle Beach said If she couldn't get her classical music, she would be in such a bind!

The thing I look forward to most about when I can retire is that I will be able to listen to more of [WHQR]. I am not a big fan of classical music but I appreciate that others are.

George Edwards of Wilmington wrote:

Good variety, considering the demands for balance. I would enjoy more evening jazz, .... I would also endorse these shows for consideration; Fiona Ritchie-Thistle & Shamrock (in addition to the new Celtic music show which is quite good), Mountain Stage, and Putumayo World Music.

Maitri Libellule recently became a sustaining member of WHQR. She wrote:

I love it. I have it on most of the time here but my favorites are are ANYTHING Garrison Keillor, from The Writers Almanac, and of course Prairie Home Companion, the talk shows, and I love Car Talk. I like classical music but don't like the opera at all and usually turn it off then. But I appreciate so much you being there and all you do. Wish I could do more. Blessings to all of you.

Folks, The past several days have been a problem with the [Lumberton] translator with so much static that it is difficult to keep the station tuned.  Have you considered asking WFSU or WUNC to take over the control of this translator as a service to the folks in the Lumberton area?

I observe that WHQR/NPR coverage and commentary on the recent Big Gulp regulations by Mayor Bloomberg focuses on beverage company opposition to the regulation - the classic evil corporation vs defenseless consumer paradigm. No one seemed to express any shock or outrage at the fact that municipal government is telling adults that they can't drink a particular beverage from a particular size cup.

This morning (May 24) shortly before 10:00, I heard a recording on your station that I really liked and went to your website to find it on a playlist. However, there was no current playlist available that I could find. The latest playlist available was for yesterday, May 23. Do I have to wait until tomorrow to find out what the recording was? (I missed the ending, where the announcer provides this info.) Don't you provide a current playlist?
