Wilmington, NC – All this month, WHQR News is talking with experts in a variety of fields, looking for a glimpse into what this new year will bring to the region.
Landfills are a hot commodity in North Carolina, where it's increasingly more difficult ot build a new one.
Of the 40 landfills in the state, 33 of them are operated by local governments. But New Hanover County commissioners are looking at getting out of the landfill business. County employees are combing over proposals from seven companies looking to take over the county's landfill, recycling and waste-to-energy facility.
Waste Management is one of those companies bidding for the landfill. Greg Peverall is Waste Management's regional director, and he says his company isn't bidding to own it.
