CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

Update: Thank You For Supporting WHQR!

Thank you every listener who called, emailed, and mailed in pledges during this week's Summer Pledge Drive. With your help, WHQRraised over $56,270 by 7pm Wednesday, July 24.  If you were one of these wonderful supporters, thank you so much!** Our partnership with the Cape Fear River Watch and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission means that 345 striped bass will be released into the Cape Fear River (we will keep you posted on the release– we expect it to happen this fall).

WHQR would like to thank those who provided the delicious food for our staff and volunteers: 9 Restaurant, Catered to You, Chops Deli, Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn, Greenlands Farm Store, Louie’s Hot Dogs, Sweet and Savory. We also thank the Umstead Hotel and Spa and Marsh Harbour Inn for donating our Sweepstakes prize. (Congratulations to our lucky winners - we'll let you know who they are next week!) And, we could not have done it without the wonderful volunteers like Merritt and Mindy Blalock and all of the great people who helped answer our pledge phones and take pledges on our new computer system. Thanks everyone!

Update: We are happy to be able to announce our Summer Sweepstakes winners:

Mike and Emily Bliss will be enjoying a two night stay with spa treatments at the Umstead Hotel and Spa.

Hugo Rooney will enjoy a three night stay at the Marsh Harbour Inn on Bald Head Island, including a round of golf for two at the Bald Head Island Club and massages at the Island Retreat Spa.

Congratulations everyone!
