The future of planning for New Hanover County will be front and center this week. The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold a Joint Work Session with the County Planning Board this Thursday, to discuss the Unified Development Ordinance. There are actually two meetings planned for this Thursday.
The county is working on a comprehensive review and update of the county’s land development regulations. The goal is that multiple land-use codes will be simplified and consolidated into one comprehensive document, called the Unified Development Ordinance, or UDO.
During these first two meetings officials will be discussing the UDO Blueprint Report, which was put together by LSL Planning.
That report establishes if the existing regulations help or hinder the county in accomplishing the goals of the Comprehensive Plan called “Plan NHC” … and identifies the necessary changes in order to implement Plan NHC.
The Blueprint is an assessment of the current land development regulations and technical standards.
Both meetings will be held at 230 Government Center Drive in Wilmington on Thursday. The final project is slated to go before the Board of Commissioners in the summer of 2018.
