Wilmington, NC – The University of North Carolina Wilmington has picked Kelly Landry Mehrtens as its next athletic director.
Mehrtens comes to UNCW from the University of Kansas where she was Associated Athletic Director. She says she expects great things from UNCW basketball coach Benny Moss. As for football, it's something she'll likely look into. I think that one of the things we need to do is just really get in here and take a look at what we currently have and are we fully funded. And then from there just take a look and see what the best thing is for the institution.
Mehrtens beat out the nearly 300 applicants for the athletic director job which has been open since UNCW let go of Mike Cappacio earlier this year. Mehrtens begins her new post August 13th.
