Uncertain Future for 17th Street ABC Operations

Wilmington, NC – The New Hanover County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board has halted developments to its 17th Street operations, and plans for the hotly contested property remain unclear.

Before the board postponed developments to its 17th Street operations, it demolished structures on the property that historic preservationists were working to protect.

County ABC board administrator Billy Williams was tight-lipped about future plans for the property, giving little information as to why the board chose to halt construction at this time.

"At this time they just thought this was in the best interest of the ABC commission," says Williams.

Williams added the board is reevaluating the future of the 17th Street property and says he hopes the ABC baord decides to begin construction again at some point.
