Titan America: The Next Step; An Interview with N.C. Coastal Federation's Mike Giles
By Michelle Bliss
01-11-11 – After a court ruling last month, the freeze has been lifted on Titan America's application for an air quality permit from the state for its proposed cement plant in Castle Hayne. With the wheels on that project turning once again, WHQR's Michelle Bliss talked to representatives both for and against the plant.
For today, Michelle sat down with Mike Giles, an environmental advocate with the North Carolina Coastal Federation and Stop Titan.
Their conversation begins by traveling back to this past summer, when environmentalists argued in court that if Titan America was to receive public money through tax incentives, the project should undergo a state-level review called SEPA. By turning down $4.5 million in tax incentives, the company has avoided that lengthy review process.
