Chris Luther will be our featured artist for the Sept. 28th Soup To Nuts Live! show in WHQR's MC Erny Gallery. Chris and his ensemble will be playing Gypsy Jazz tunes and will feature Alex Chamyan on violin, as well as Sean Martin on guitar.
Originally from Long Island, NY and raised in Greensboro, NC, Chris Luther has been playing music for over 20 years. He studied guitar at age 13 with country guitarist/vocalist Richard Knight, and later with Jazz guitarist Greg Hyslop. Chris was a member of the Grimsley High School Jazz Band, and performed in numerous musicals. His education also included studies at the Greensboro Music Academy with Mark Freundt and Thomas Taylor. In 1997, he recorded his first album with The Bandits. After high school, he attended Cape Fear Community College and UNCW, where he studied under Bobby Russell in the Department of Music's Jazz program. Since his 2007 graduation, Chris has been an active musician and a dedicated participant at Jazz jams and other events.
He returned to songwriting in 2011, created his publishing company, Chris Luther Music, in 2015, and has performed in Nice, France, giving him a fresh, new musical direction. Chris actively performs live, teaches guitar, writes music, and has recently attended “Django in June,” a gypsy guitar camp at Smith College in Northampton, MA.
