Wilmington, NC – South Carolina's license plate is getting a new look next year.
Nearly three million vehicles in South Carolina are sporting plates with the green and brown Palmetto tree and the slogan: Smiling Faces Beautiful Places. But starting next year South Carolina will be issuing a new license plate.
It will have the web address for the state's department of tourism underneath a silhouetted palmetto tree and crescent moon in front of a sky that would make Maxfield Parish sigh.
A golf club manager designed the new South Carolina license plate, which got more than 100,000 votes in the state's license plate design competition.
South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles says the last design took place in 1998. The new south Carolina license plate will hit the streets in July of next year.
