Wilmington, NC – Throughout the night Interim 18th House Representative Sandra Spaulding Hughes lead the field of three candidates, which included former seat holder Thomas Wright and Wilmington activist Hollis Briggs.
Hughes says her goal as interim Representative and democratic candidate is to heal the wounds that came when Wright was expelled from the legislature.
"To develop trust back into the system, that we value your vote, and that it can heal in time."
Wilmington attorney Tom Goolsby is the republican challenger who says he threw his hat in the ring to challenge Wright. He says he's still in the race but has made no decision whether to stay in through the general election.
