Race: North Carolina Governor
North Carolina’s Republican Governor Pat McCrory has won his primary and will face Democratic Challenger Roy Cooper – the outgoing state Attorney General.
Race: North Carolina House of Representatives
North Carolina House District 17 in Brunswick County will see its incumbent, Republican Frank Iler, face Democratic Challenger Charles Warren in November. Iler beat his Republican rival Marion Davis by more than 30%.
House District 18, which covers New Hanover and a small part of Brunswick County, has been represented by Democrat Susi Hamilton for three terms. She had no primary challenger and will face Republican Jerry Benton in November.
Ted Davis, a Republican from New Hanover County representing District 19 in the State House, is uncontested and will retain his seat.
North Carolina Representative Rick Catlin, a Republican from New Hanover County, is not running for reelection, and the primary battle to replace him in District 20 has been fierce and controversial. Current School Board member Tammy Covil has lobbed dubious allegations of Clinton connections at her Republican rival, Holly Grange. Grange, a businesswoman and Army veteran, won the Republican nomination by more than 24%. Since she has no Democratic challenger, she is a shoo-in for the seat.
