Primary Election Highlights: Brunswick & Pender Counties

Pender & Brunswick County

Brunswick County 

In Brunswick County, there are two Commission districts with primary races.  Jim Medlin went head-to-head with incumbent Pat Sykes on the Republican side.  He lost to Sykes by 13 percentage points.  In Brunswick County’s District 4 on the Democratic side, Brenda Faye McMillian swept to victory – and the general election -- beating Timbo Evans by 43%. 

Brunswick County’s Board of Education has open seats in Districts 1, 2, and 4.  In the Republican primary, Ed Lemon, Catherine Cooke, and Ellen Milligan took the most votes – ousting long-time incumbent Shirley Babson.     

Pender County

In Pender County, Demetrice Keith came out one and a half percentage points ahead of Jody Woodcock to be the Democratic nominee for Board of Commissioner’s District 4

There was one race in Pender County for the Board of Education – which is a non-partisan race.  Don Hall was the sole contender in District 3, but in District 5, Brad George overtook Jack Swann by 210 votes.
