Possible Park Could Hamper Thalian's Fundraising

By Catherine M. Welch

Wilmington, NC – Thalian Hall's Executive Director Tony Rivenbark says a city park proposed for the Thalian's current parking lot could hamper fundraising efforts for an addition to the historic performance hall.

Rivenbark says he's already hearing concerns from patrons he's hoping will fund the $8-million project.

I did receive a call the other day saying, We think this is very poor timing, and we love coming to Thalian Hall, but if you're going to take away the parking we're going to reconsider.'

Thalian Hall's expansion involves adding a playhouse that can morph from a theatre-in-the-round into a banquet space.

Rivenbark says construction is scheduled to start in the spring of next year.
