When you come in contact with the brilliance of the performers from Camerata Philadelphia, you will likely be amazed that these artists are again coming to Wilmington, and that again, performances are FREE. Listen to arecording hereof the ensemble performing music by Dmitri Shostakovich.
Of course, nothing is free. The performances are brought to the community by the fundraising efforts of the Port City Music Festival for the 7th year. Christine Farley of Wilmington founded this festival with cellist/conductor Stephen Framil in 2009. Ms. Farley, now the Director of Festival Operations, spoke about the events this year and the latest addition to the festival-an orchestral performance. On Wednesday, June 10 we'll hear from visiting musicians.
Free Festival Performances
- 5pm Sunday, June 7. "1st Viennese School." This performance at Kenan Chapel includes works by Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn. This performance is FULL
- 7:30pm Tuesday, June 9. "Love Triangle." The romance between Clara and Robert Schumann set forth through their music at Windemere Presbyterian Church, plus work by their protégé, Johannes Brahms, who fell in love with Clara.
- 7:30pm Thursday, June 11. "Espana." This evening at the Cameron Art Museum presents music by De Falla, Sarasate, and Turina.
- 7:30pm Friday, June 12. "French Connection." Debussy, Ravel, Satie, Poulenc, and Weill are featured in this performance at the Beckwith Recital Hall in the Cultural Arts Building at UNCW.
- 5pm Sunday, June 14. "Festival Orchestra." This addition to the festival will be performed at First Presbyterian Church on 3rd Street. It's an all-Russian program: Arensky, Shostakovich, and Tchaikovsky.
