Wilmington, NC – A couple of election races in New Hanover County have just opened up.

The Carolina Beach mayor's race is wide open now that mayor Bill Clark has announced he will not seek re-election. Clark cited medical reasons in a released statement.

Clark was elected to his first term in November of 2005, riding a wave of concern about the city's growth and rising condos.

In Wilmington, City Councilwoman Lethia Hankins announced she will not seek another term. Hankins says she needs time for herself after giving nearly 40 years of service in the schools, on committees, and at city hall.

The filing period for New Hanover County candidates opened earlier this month and ends July 20th.
