CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

New nonprofit seeks to connect marine biotech research; help innovators bring products to market

MBCOI

For years, universities and other research institutions have worked individually on research and development.

But now a new Wilmington-based non-profit, Marine Bio-Technologies Center of Innovation or MBCOI, is looking to bring together all those disparate pieces.

As WHQR’s Rachel Lewis Hilburn learned when she sat down with Dr. Deb Mosca, if the new company can connect innovators in the marine biotechnology field, new products could be developed and commercialized more quickly and effectively.   And that could mean new streams of revenue for UNCW – and the Cape Fear region.

Dr. Mosca will talk more about the potential contribution of marine biotechnology to the local economy at tomorrow’s Economic Outlook Conference at UNCW’s Burney Center.

To see the conference agenda or get information on admission, visit UNCW's Cameron School of Business website:  http://www.csb.uncw.edu/cbes/conf/eoc/index.htm

Rachel hosts and produces CoastLine, an award-winning hourlong conversation featuring artists, humanitarians, scholars, and innovators in North Carolina. The show airs Wednesdays at noon and Sundays at 4 pm on 91.3 FM WHQR Public Media. It's also available as a podcast; just search CoastLine WHQR. You can reach her at rachellh@whqr.org.
