Wilmington, NC – There are now five candidates vying for two open seats on the New Hanover County Commission.
Napier Fuller and Deborah Butler have joined three others. Fuller is the third Republican and Butler is the second Democrat to throw in a bid.
Fuller is a commercial real estate broker in the area. He says one issue that crosses party lines is the proposed Titan cement plant.
"Titan is opposed both on the left and the right. I very much oppose it because I don't approve of the tax credits at all. You can't reduce the tax to one group without raising it upon another. And I think it's unfair to raise it on the backs of retirees and small business owners."
Butler is an attorney and owner of a real estate brokerage firm in downtown Wilmington. And on her campaign website she scolds county commissioners for making a deal with Titan Cement behind closed doors.
Long-time commissioner Bobby Greer is not seeking reelection, while commissioner Bill Caster is expected to run again.
February 8th starts the official filing period.
