Community members can ask questions and provide feedback at three public forums this week for the North Carolina Maritime Strategy.

NOTE: This story has been updated to correct the Brunswick County forum location.

WHQR’s Michelle Bliss reports that the meetings will be in St. James, Wilmington, and Morehead City, and they’ll cover the study’s findings on state resources.

State Department of Transportation Spokesperson Greer Beaty says that the study team will release its report early next year, but the team is not making any recommendations yet.

Recommendations down the road may include a deep water port in Southport where the DOT already owns land or expansions of current ports.

Beaty says that unlike in the past, the DOT is actively seeking public input at meetings across the state before the maritime strategy study is complete and recommendations are made to a state logistics task force.
