Lightning Fill In The Blank

PETER SAGAL, HOST:

Now, on to our final game, Lightning Fill in the Blank. Each of our players will have 60 seconds in which to answer as many fill in the blank questions as he or she can. Each correct answer worth two points. Carl, can you give us the scores?

CARL KASELL: Roxanne Roberts has the lead, Peter. She has four points. Bobcat Goldthwait and Peter Grosz are tied for second. They both have two points.

SAGAL: All right. We flipped a coin. Bobcat's elected to go second. So, Peter, you are up first.

PETER GROSZ: OK.

SAGAL: The clock will start when I begin your first question. Fill in the blank. This week Saudi Arabia named two female athletes who will be sent to London to compete in blank.

GROSZ: The Olympics.

SAGAL: Right.

SAGAL: A day after their ambassador to Iraq announced he was defecting, officials in blank announced he was fired.

GROSZ: Syria.

SAGAL: Yes.

SAGAL: After much speculation about his illness, this week representative blank's office said he is undergoing treatment for a mood disorder.

SAGAL: A woman attempting to rob a gas station in Michigan left empty handed when the cashier blanked.

SAGAL: TV networks set up marathons of movies and the TV show "McHale's Navy" to honor actor blank who died last Sunday at 95.

GROSZ: Ernest Borgnine.

SAGAL: Right.

SAGAL: On Thursday Fox confirmed Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler is out as a judge on blank.

GROSZ: "American Idol."

SAGAL: Right.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

SAGAL: Hilarity ensued when cops responded to a disturbance at the Humpty Doo Tavern and Hotel in Australia and were blanked.

(SOUNDBITE OF GONG)

GROSZ: Pushed off of a wall.

SAGAL: No, were mistaken for strippers.

(LAUGHTER)

SAGAL: It happens from time to time. It was a regular night at the Humpty Doo Tavern until police were spotted at a bachelorette party and quote, "nearly had their shirts torn off." The ladies didn't seem to get the message. "Ooh, handcuffs? Sexy" The job really makes you feel for all the actual French maids out there just trying to do their jobs.

SAGAL: Carl, how did Peter do on our quiz?

KASELL: Peter had five correct answers, for ten more points. He now has 12 points, and Peter has taken the lead.

SAGAL: All right.

GROSZ: Ha-ha.

SAGAL: Ha-ha.

(APPLAUSE)

SAGAL: Bobcat, you're up next. Fill in the blank. In speeches across the country, this week President Obama pushed for the extension of blank for the middle class.

BOBCAT GOLDTHWAIT: Tax cuts.

SAGAL: Right.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

SAGAL: Judges are divided over whether to support new President Mohammad Mursi's plan to reinstate the parliament in blank.

GOLDTHWAIT: Funkadelic.

(LAUGHTER)

SAGAL: Egypt, the parliament in Egypt.

GOLDTHWAIT: Egypt.

GOLDTHWAIT: IBM.

SAGAL: Apple. A North Carolina man barricaded himself in his hotel room this weekend, refusing to leave until he got blank.

(SOUNDBITE OF GONG)

GOLDTHWAIT: Chocolate mints.

SAGAL: Until he got a pizza and a marriage proposal from Paris Hilton.

(LAUGHTER)

SAGAL: 61 year old Frederick Denney barricaded himself into his room and threatened to open fire if police didn't meet his two demands. He wanted a pizza, and he wanted a marriage proposal from Paris Hilton. And negotiators tried to reason with him. They said, sir, please be realistic, do you know how hard it is to get a pizza this time of night?

(LAUGHTER)

SAGAL: Carl, how did Bobcat Goldthwait do on our show?

KASELL: Bobcat had two correct answers, for four more points. He now has six points, but Peter Grosz still has the lead with 12.

SAGAL: All right then. How many does Roxanne need to win?

KASELL: Four to tie, five to win outright.

SAGAL: All right, here we go, Roxanne. This is for the game. Fill in the blank. In a symbolic move on Wednesday, House Republicans once again voted to repeal President Obama's blank plan.

ROXANNE ROBERTS: Health care.

SAGAL: Right.

(SOUNDBITE OF BELL)

SAGAL: After warnings that malware could cause computer users to lose access to the blank Monday, the impact was relatively small.

ROBERTS: To the internet.

SAGAL: Yes.

ROBERTS: Oh.

SAGAL: Thousands of people gathered in Pamplona Spain for the annual blank held this week.

ROBERTS: Running of the bulls.

SAGAL: Yes.

SAGAL: This week a family in Ohio discovered that a collection of blank they found in the attic could be worth millions.

ROBERTS: Baseball cards.

SAGAL: Yes.

SAGAL: A new hotel in Brazil has a floor designed especially for romantic meetings for blanks.

SAGAL: Yes.

SAGAL: For $50 a day, your pooch can stay at the Love Hotel, and get romantic in a room with a heart shaped mirror on the ceiling, red cushions on the floor and mood lighting. Proprietors at the Animalle Mundo Pet say that dogs love the idea, but there are no refunds if your dog's choice of a romantic partner is the concierge's leg down in the lobby.

KASELL: Well, she needed six to win outright, and Roxanne had seven correct answers.
