Wilmington, NC – Last year, the number of chlamydia cases in North Carolina spiked by nearly 7,000.
That alarming increase is one factor that led to a community forum on sexual health at Cape Fear Community College tomorrow.
A handful of local organizations, including the New Hanover County Health Department and Planned Parenthood, will be there.
Cape Fear psychology instructor Jason McCoy says no one should let embarrassment keep them from attending.
"I totally understand that matters related to sex can be taboo. But I would suggest that by educating yourself it's going to not only relieve some of your embarrassment, some of your shame, but also maybe put you in the best possible position for maintaining good health throughout your life."
McCoy says the forum will also provide information about testing for STDs, along with treatment and prevention options at free area clinics.
The forum is tomorrow from 2-4 p.m. at Cape Fear Community College.
