CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

Leland Council and H2G0 Board Ousts Incumbents

The Town of Leland saw a major upset on Election Day.  One polarizing issue --  how to plan for the Town’s future water supply – could have been a factor.

Mayor Brenda Bozeman handily kept her seat winning 81% of the vote to challenger Glenn Thearling’s 19%.

But Town Council in Leland was another matter.  Jane Crowder, the only incumbent seeking another term, lost her Council seat to newcomers Michael Callahan and Bob Campbell.  Both men oppose the local water authority’s push to build a reverse osmosis plant.  Jane Crowder’s husband, H2G0’s current Board Chair John Crowder, as well as fellow incumbent Poe Butler, lost their seats on the water authority’s board to R.O. plant opponents Trudy Trombley and Jeff Gerken.
