The Last Word In Business

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

Now let's cut some cloth, because our last word in business today is crowd couture. High-end fashion designer Oscar de la Renta is wading into the world of social media. He's asking fans to upload pictures or videos to a digital inspiration board in his office, a sort of living version of the bulletin boards designers use to pin up scrapes of fabric and other clippings as inspiration.

The 79-year-old fashion legend may look at submissions, or may not. It's not clear. There's no compensation for fans who add to the board. We can be clear on that - no compensation, that is, beyond the thought that they might be influencing the next Oscar de la Renta collection.

And that's the business news on MORNING EDITION, from NPR News. I'm Steve Inskeep.

RENEE MONTAGNE, HOST:
