Wilmington, NC – Horry County Commissioners are holding another public hearing Monday for residents who want to ban fireworks on their property.
South Carolina cities can ban fireworks. But counties must follow a state law that requires individual property owners to lobby for themselves. Horry County Spokesperson Lisa Bourcier says most of the requests come from residents along the coast.
"Most of the properties that we have seen come in are mainly oceanfront properties, a lot of condominiums as well as the beach homes that are rentable."
Bourcier says the county has never refused an application. And once a property becomes fireworks-free it is registered with 911 so law enforcement knows when someone is violating the ban.
