It's our favorite time of year again -  and we are gearing up for the best Homemade Holiday Shorts yet! Join us on Sunday, December 14 at 6pm in the MC Erny Gallery at WHQR for an evening of memorable storytelling, live music, intimate conversation and holiday treats. This year we are spoiled - with Rob Zapple acting as our elegant Master of Ceremonies AND local celebrities Tony Rivenbark, Rhonda Bellamy and Katherine Rudeseal  reading some of the best holiday-themes stories yet, including one from well known firecracker Celia Rivenbark AND live music by John Golden - we couldn't ask for more!

Bios

Tony Rivenbark - Tony Rivenbark is a native of Duplin County, NC. He received a B.A. in History and Theatre from UNCW and did his graduate work at Chapel Hill. Tony is Executive Director of the Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. and was instrumental in the extensive renovation and expansion of Thalian Hall in 1990 and the recent renovation and restoration of the auditorium completed in 2010.   He is also an actor, director storyteller and historian. He has received many awards for his work, including the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society Cup, the Wilmington Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts, the National League of Historic American Theatres Award, and the 2014  recipient of Most Enduring Contribution to Wilmington Theatre.  His photo tribute to Thalian Hall was published by Arcadia Press in August of this year.  In September, he was honored by the Board of Trustees for 35 years of service at the helm of Thalian Hall.

Rhonda Bellamy - is executive director of the Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County, a positon she has held since the agency was reestablished in December 2011. Rhonda is a veteran journalist with 22 years experience in broadcast and print. The former news director for Cumulus Media in Wilmington, she has hosted public affairs and talk shows, garnering numerous commendations for her work from the Associated Press. The author of three books, Rhonda has also written and performed a number of one woman stage shows and been featured in voice-overs and narrations. She is a founding instructor at Dreams Center of Arts Education, a co-founder of the Black Arts Alliance, Inc. and a member of the board of directors of Arts North Carolina. A native of New York, Rhonda graduated from Wilmingto's E.A. Laney High School and North Carolina University, where she holds a B.A. in English with a concentration in Media/Journalism and graduate credits in Instructional Media. She is the daughter of Annie Ruth and the late James McLaurin of Wilmington, mom to two adults, grandmother to four.  

Katherine Rudeseal - Katherine has been performing in Wilmington for 20 years. She has starred in over 25 musicals and straight plays including "Ragtime," "Cabaret," and "Oliver." Most recently she was found getting her b**** on at TheatreNOW performing in Zach Hanner's stage adaptation of Celia Rivenbark's "Rude Bitches Make Me Tired." Katherine has also been in front of the camera, been the voice in many commercials and is beginning a new chapter of her life in film. When not performing she works as a graphic designer, mother, wife, daughter, aunt, etc. She's tickled to be reading a piece by Celia as she has been a huge fan for many years and actually got a Baby Born for Christmas one year!
