I love it. I have it on most of the time here but my favorites are are ANYTHING Garrison Keillor, from The Writers Almanac, and of course Prairie Home Companion, the talk shows, and I love Car Talk. I like classical music but don't like the opera at all and usually turn it off then. But I appreciate so much you being there and all you do. Wish I could do more. Blessings to all of you.
Larry Reni Thomas, who hosts a jazz radio show in Chapel Hill, commented on a recent web story about jazz on WHQR:
Wilmington needs and deserves a 24-hour jazz radio station! I was one of the first jazz programmers at WHQR-FM. I have worked at six others since then, including 8 years at the 24-hour jazz station, WNCU-FM, in Durham. North Carolina, the birthplace of John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Max Roach, Nina Simone and Percy Heath, has three other jazz stations, WFSS, WSHA and WSNC. What is Wilmington waiting on?

Finally, a point of personal privilege: today is the last day of work for three outstanding young people who have been with us here at WHQR. Asia Brown, Laura Hunsberger and Sara Wood have all been doing exemplary work for us. They are from our intern program, a highly successful partnership with the Graduate School at UNCW. For the past year, and in Laura’s case two years, they have contributed an incredible amount of work and good cheer to WHQR, both on the air and behind the scenes. Next week we’ll start with three new faces from the program, along with continuing work from John Mortara, and we’re looking forward to new faces. But this year’s crop has been hard to beat. We salute them and wish them all the best in the next phases of their careers.
