So glad you are partnering with Nourish NC and so sorry there are so many hungry kids here or anywhere. -- Sally MacKain and Bob Cutting

Serious question. Do jazz 'musicians' have scripted music or do they just randomly play that disconnected rubbish? If pictures are a series of lines that please the eye and music is a series of sounds that please the ear, what is jazz?

This week marked the 37th anniversary of the murder of John Lennon on the streets of New York. George Scheibner played a tribute on Smooth Landing.

[AUDIO CLIP] Just want to leave a message for George Scheibner. Thank you so much for the John Lennon. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to Smooth Landing where I didn’t feel nostalgic – and it really touches me, the way he puts that program together. So thank you so much. This is Christine and thanks again. Bye-bye.

We’re continuing to receive thanks and appreciations for Jemila Ericson, whose last regular day on the air will be December 26th. Wayne Upchurch said to her:

We could always hear [your] deeply kind beneficent smile, and the blessing of your attention in any interview. The Theater, and her audience, hereby, stand to Gain. Big Time.

Lee Ann Weinberg wrote:

Jemila's replacement will have big shoes to fill… All those of us who have had the joy of listening to [her] musically lilting voice on WHQR and now Classical HQR will most surely miss her. That lovely voice and her insightful commentary on the classical music selections of the morning brought sunshine to even the dullest of days. Jemila, we wish you all the best with your future plans and hope to see you on the Thalian stage a bit more often now.

Thanks to everyone who made a pledge yesterday during our 1-day December drive. We’re very pleased to have partnered with Nourish NC. It’s a great organization doing immense good in combating hunger. And special thanks to AAI-Pharma for their support in the form of a day’s worth of food for every pledge received. Here are some comments we received from people making pledges.

I love both stations. Don't know what I would do without the stations.

I’m hoping for Santa to bring me an HD radio for Christmas.

You are a wonderful station and I share information about the station whenever I can. I like the variety of music on the classical station.

Happy Holidays from Paris (yes, France) to all our friends and family. We love Diane Rehm live.

Dick Veit said:

With two great WHQR stations, I never have a reason to listen to any other station… You enrich my life immeasurably.

Catherine Coulter said:

This is the last time I get to support Jemila and the her wonderful nurturing voice in the morning! Take good care on the next part of the journey.
