We will miss it when we return home.-- Renee and Emily Steffensmeier

First of all, WHQR is absolutely wonderful. I’ve been listening from day 1 and this current lineup/split station is the best yet. The only problem I run into is trying to listen! I like to listen on my iPhone at work and am having a problem keeping the stream from dropping, and also using the interface. When I first started using my iPhone to stream, when I hit listen on the whqr home page I got a nice little player that opened on my phone with a whqr logo. Now a sort of mysterious looking box opens and sometimes the station plays and sometimes it doesn’t. I’ve ending up streaming WUNC and a station in Austin, Texas, instead of WHQR and I have no problem with them – those streams never drop. WUNC is available on itunes radio and KUT Austin is on I(heart)radio. Any chance HQR News will link with one of those apps or do you know of any tips for listening on iphone? Keep up the great work.

Thanks, Scott, for the message. I don’t have an answer at my fingertips, but we will look into it. We had problems earlier this week due to an AT&T outage. The WHQR page should open in the mobile version, which looks very different from the regular webpage that you see on your computer. On my iPhone, clicking “Listen Live” simply starts playing as soon as I click — no external player needed. I can choose either HQR News or Classical HQR. I told Scott that if he sees a shrunken version of the full website in his phone, to try entering “m.whqr.org”. That will show the mobile version. We’ll follow up if we have more information, but we are working on iTunes compatability.

Any chance you could include 'On the Media' in your programming? And how about some Latin jazz?… I NEVER listen to the classical station. Been there/done that. Thank you.

We want our underwriters to know that our listeners are paying attention. This week we sent our emails to listeners asking them to be sure to thank underwriters when they patronize them. Listener Susan wrote:

I'm so glad the email has been sent. It's very important! I go out of my way my to support underwriters whenever possible. For instance, I just purchased a pair of eyeglasses from Ogden Optical. I'm a member of Gig Salad, I purchase from Shelton Herb Farms, etc. And when I frequent these businesses, I tell them it's because they support WHQR.”

Thanks, Susan. And speaking of that, Pete and Shaun of Wilmington wrote:

Shaun's Mom, and Pete's Mom & Dad are Plantation Village Residents (independent living apartments). They love it there and we love having them close by and at such a great place to live! It's wonderful hearing that PV has joined the WHQR community [as an underwriter].

And a long-distance dedication to Renee and Emily Steffensmeier of State College, PA, who wrote:

[We] Have enjoyed both the news and classical during the 6 weeks we stayed at Sunset Beach. Will miss it when we return home. Enjoyed hearing shows that we don't get in SC....America's Test Kitchen, Diane Rehm, People's Pharmacy and your local stories about Williston High and Coastline shows.

Listener Bette wrote:

I would like to commend Rachel Lewis Hilburn on a great job of interviewing her guests. It was clear that she had done her homework. This was an hour on a standard with Diane Rehm. Thanks for the great information and commentary.

We’d love to hear from you on Friday Feedback. You can always leave a message via email to feedback@WHQR.org. Our Feedback Phone is 910-292-9477. And thanks for your feedback.
