CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE: Updates, resources, and context

Fifty/Fifty

OPHIRA EISENBERG, HOST:

All right everybody, this is what we've all been waiting for. It's the Ask Me One More final round.

(APPLAUSE)

EISENBERG: The final elimination round will determine this week's ASK ME ANOTHER champion, so let's bring back the winners from all of our previous rounds. From Who's That Girl? David Scher.

(APPLAUSE)

EISENBERG: From Dr. Who, Malia Jackson.

(APPLAUSE)

EISENBERG: E-Horror-mony, Gregg Silverman. And JLo, Sally Dankas.

(APPLAUSE)

EISENBERG: All right contestants. This is a game we call 50/50. Will Hines, take it away.

WILL HINES: OK Ophira, I will. Contestants, in this game we're going to ask you a series of questions where you have to pick between two choices like, at Starbucks which cup size is larger: a venti or a grande? And you would answer?

AUDIENCE: A venti.

HINES: A venti. The audience fully caffeinated answer is... venti. So that's how we do this, and we're going to play this "spelling bee" style which means one answer wrong and you're out. You only have a few seconds. And if you're correct you go back to the end of the line and wait your turn for another question until we have just one remaining.

So question one. Honda or Hyundai? Which automaker is based in Korea?

DAVID SCHER: Hyundai.

HINES: Correct, thank you David.

(APPLAUSE)

HINES: Malia, the United States or China, which country has more time zones?

MALIA JACKSON: United States.

HINES: That's correct. US has nine, China has one. Gregg, full house or four of a kind, which is the higher poker hand?

GREGG SILVERMAN: Four of a kind.

HINES: Correct.

(APPLAUSE)

HINES: Sally, Vietnam War or Korean War, which one came first?

SALLY DANKAS: The Korean.

HINES: Correct.

(APPLAUSE)

HINES: David, Pablo Picasso or Frida Kahlo, which artist was born in Spain?

SCHER: Pablo Picasso.

HINES: That's right.

(APPLAUSE)

HINES: Malia, Polish or Portuguese, which is one of the roman languages?

JACKSON: Portuguese.

HINES: That's correct.

(APPLAUSE)

HINES: Gregg, Michael J Fox or Tom Cruise, who's taller?

(LAUGHTER)

SILVERMAN: Michael J Fox.

HINES: That is incorrect, Gregg.

(SOUNDBITE OF GROAN)

HINES: I mean in comedic stature. Sally, Dr. Who or Star Trek, which sci-fi series aired on television first?

DANKAS: Star Trek.

HINES: That is incorrect.

(SOUNDBITE OF GROAN)

HINES: It's, it's more shameful to get that one correct. David, the Statue of Liberty or the Eiffel Tower, what's taller?

SCHER: Eiffel Tower.

HINES: That's correct.

(APPLAUSE)

HINES: Malia, Deuteronomy or Proverbs, which book comes first in The Bible?

JACKSON: Deuteronomy.

HINES: That's right.

(APPLAUSE)

HINES: David, Neptune or Uranus, which planet is further away from the sun?

SCHER: Neptune.

HINES: That's right.

(APPLAUSE)

HINES: Malia, violet or red, which color has the longer wavelength?

JACKSON: Red.

HINES: Wow!

(LAUGHTER)

EISENBERG: I was like no one will get that one.

HINES: David, jalapeno pepper or cayenne pepper, which one is hotter as measured by the Scoville scale?

SCHER: Cayenne.

HINES: That's right.

(APPLAUSE)

HINES: Malia, microwave oven or Teflon, which was invented first?

JACKSON: Microwave oven.

HINES: That is incorrect. But David has to get this right to win, so stay there. David, express mail or priority mail in the US, which costs more?

SCHER: Express mail.

HINES: That is correct. You're the winner.

SCHER: Yes!

(APPLAUSE)

EISENBERG: Congratulations David Scher, you're our big winner! David Scher is our champion, and you get the grand prize. From NPR Swag you get some buttons. You get a bag. There's a couple of cards. There's a Rubik's Cube. David Scher, you are the winner.
