FAFSA Day at UNCW
By Michelle Bliss
Wilmington, NC – Students and parents facing that pesky financial aid paperwork can get professional help for free tomorrow.
Thirty volunteers will be on hand at UNCW for the ninth annual FAFSA Day--a statewide event being held at 65 locations.
Last year, more than 3,600 students across the state received free help on FAFSA Day and between 4,000 and 5,000 participants are expected tomorrow.
UNCW financial aid counselor Judy Carter says that number has grown because of the failing economy.
"A lot of people don't have the savings or they're having to dip into their college savings accounts in order to make ends meet. So they don't have the money that they would have set aside to pay for their student's education, so they're going to have to take out loans."
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first floor of Bear Hall.
There will also be a set of workshops on February 28 for students, grades 8 through 12, who are considering higher education.
