This show will close on Thursday, June 5th

Join us on May 23rd for the Closing Reception - meet Liz Hosier, enjoy wine and light refreshments and view "Earth, Sea, & Sky" featuring work by Gail Henderson and Liz Hosier, two artists whose works are expressions of elements of earth, sky, horizon and atmosphere conveyed through their unique use of color, paints, and materials.

The exhibit will also serve as a celebration of the life and work of the late Gail Henderson, and the artistic connection she and Liz Hosier forged.

About the Artists:

Liz Hosier uses a multi-step process of layer upon layer of oil with cold wax. Her “horizon” and “scape” pieces are investigations into the mystical place where earth and sky seem to meet as expressions of her travels and life experiences. Her “transcending” series evokes a journey into meditation as one seeks to transcend t he “day to day” earthly clutter into a state of peace and tranquility. Hosier says, “I believe that Art is that process of seeking truth through color, light and form inspired by sight, feeling and contemplation supported by life experiences. I find my best work starts with the simplest of ideas that allows me the freedom to explore new techniques, color and materials rather than following a well worn path.” Her work has won awards at the Wilmington Art Association Art Show, the Landfall Foundation Art Show, and Orange Street ArtFest, and has been included in many juried group shows.

Gail Henderson’s paintings focus on earth colors and natural shapes.  Her work was fostered by time spent in the American Southwest and rural Spain. “I build texture using thick paint, silica, resin, and metals to express the roughness of the terrain and natural attitude of the Southwest,” Henderson said of her techniques. A career educator, she began her hands-on art activity in 2000.  Her professional education (B.A. and Ph.D., The Ohio State University; M.A., Michigan State University) contained virtually no course work related to the art world.  She used art workshops, courses, study of early and current artists, and introspection to develop her art. Henderson’s work now hangs in several private and corporate collections, including those of Duke Power, PPD Inc. and Bessimer Trust, and has been in numerous juried exhibitions.

Gail Henderson relocated from Wilmington, NC to the Annapolis, Maryland area in May 2013.  She passed away on November 16, 2013.  The Gail H Henderson Memorial Scholarship has been established by the Muddy Creek Artist Guild at Anne Arundel (MD) Community College to support aspiring art educators.  Proceeds from sales of remaining works are directed to this cause.
