CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

Communique UPDATE: "Jewish Film Fest" Adds 3:00 Screening Thursday, 8/25

The Summer Series from the Wilmington Jewish Film Festivalhas drawn greater crowds than expected-a great "problem" to have. A screening of the final double feature, Bad Faith and Aya, has been added to give more people the opportunity to see these award-winning shorts; screening times are now 3:00 and 7:00 on Thursday, 8/25.

New Schedule for Thursday, 8/25: "Bad Faith" & "Aya" at 3:00 & 7:00 at Thalian Hall Bucky Stein Theatre. Tickets $7/3:00, $10/7:00. Reception follows 7:00 screening.

Bad Faith: He’s Muslim, she’s Jewish, yet Ismael and Clara are the perfectly gorgeous cross-cultural young French couple who have spent the last four years in a blissful, trouble-free relationship. Both Clara and Ismael are secular, so the notion of religion, race and culture has never factored into their relationship — until Clara unintentionally becomes pregnant. Now they need to break the news to their respective traditional parents, and the fear and stress of those reactions put their relationship to the ultimate test. A Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? for the 21st century, BAD FAITH lends a deft comedic touch and poignancy to a romantic comedy for our troubled time. French with English subtitles. (88 min) Bad Faith Trailer

Aya:  Two strangers unexpectedly meet at an airport. He mistakenly confuses her to be his assigned driver. She, enchanted by the random encounter, does not hurry to prove him wrong. English (40 min) Aya Trailler

The Wilmington Jewish Film Festivalhas become increasingly popular, expanding every year since it began 3 years ago. Still, it's not big enough to screen all the films the organizers would like to screen. So this week, the Festival kicks off a little Summer Series at Thalian Hall, presenting 3 feature films and 1 short. Festival organizers, Debbie Smith and Bucky Stein, joined us to talk about the series. The first selection is a French film Rue Mandar. Listen to Bucky Stein gives us a summary of this film and the other features above. The screenings are followed by receptions. Tickets are available online and at the door, or by calling 910-632-2285. $10/$7 for students & military. NOTE: 3:00 screening for Thursday, 8/25 has been added.
