Grammy-nominated percussionist Michael D'Angelo teaches in the Jazz division of the UNCW Music Department. He's been involved in the weeklongJazz Workshop at UNCW since he was in middle school. His experience there inspired him to pursue jazz performance and instruction, so for D'Angelo, the Jazz Workshop is particularly poignant this year-it's the 20th Anniversary, and Alumni performers from the past years are converging on the stage of Kenan Auditorium. Listen to his perspective-and more about the performances-above.
This week, the Jazz Workshop presents 3 performances for the public: the Faculty Performance on 7/11, Monday, featuring Natalie Boeyink, Gerald Shynett, Justin Hoke, Michael D'Angelo, Andy Whittington, Mike Waddell, and Tom Davis ($6); on 7/13, Wednesday morning & evening, the Alumni Sax Sextet & Big Band ($6); and on 7/15, Friday, Student Combos (free).
