CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE: Updates, resources, and context

Communique: Jim Downey's Glass Turtles Benefit Endangered Loggerheads Saturday 6/18

Jim Downey
Baby sea turtles on the beach-made of glass by Jim Downey

Jim Downey had a career as a scientific glassblower, creating glass components for electronics applications in Princeton, New Jersey. After 30 years, Jim retired from scientific glasswork and shifted his focus to glass art.  He works in miniatures-particularly holiday ornaments, jewelry, statuettes-even glass straws and stirrers. Each month, Jim's creations are put toward charity with an open house sale at Jim Downey Glass  with 10% of revenue going to local non-profits. This month, the Wrightsville Beach Sea Turtle Project is the beneficiary.

The June open house is Saturday, June 18th from 10am to 2pm at his studio, 2925 Boundary Street, Unit 3 (off Kerr Ave).  There is a big focus on glass sea turtles necklaces, baby turtles emerging from eggs, and other turtle statuettes.  There will be other sea life as well, and Jim will give a glass sculpture demonstration.  Listen to Jim talk about his work above.
